Malaysia Masters 2026: Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Finish as Runners-Up in Bukit Jalil

Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani receive silver medals alongside Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard with gold medals after the Malaysia Masters 2026 final in Bukit Jalil Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin finished as runners-up at the Malaysia Masters 2026 while Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard celebrated their first BWF World Tour title victory.

Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Malaysia Masters contenders Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, ended their impressive run at the BWF Malaysia Masters 2026 with a second-place finish after losing to Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard in the final.

Playing in front of passionate home supporters at the Unifi Arena in Bukit Jalil, the Malaysian duo were defeated in straight sets, 21-16, 21-17, by the world No. 18 Danish pair.

The defeat brought back memories of their previous Malaysian Masters final appearance nine years ago, when they also missed out on the championship title. Fans had hoped this would finally be the year Sze Fei and Izzuddin lifted the trophy on home soil after their strong performances throughout the tournament.

Strong Run Throughout the Tournament

Before reaching the final, Sze Fei and Izzuddin produced one of the biggest results of the tournament by defeating fellow Malaysians Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the semi-finals.

However, Lundgaard and Vestergaard entered the final well-prepared. The Danish duo managed to control the pace of the game and prevented the Malaysians from building momentum during crucial moments.

Danish Pair Read the Malaysians Well

After the match, Sze Fei admitted that the Danish pair understood their playing style very well, making it difficult for them to fight back once they fell behind.

According to Sze Fei, the opponents applied pressure consistently from the start of the match and forced the Malaysians into making slower adjustments on court.

The final was the sixth meeting between both pairs, and their third clash this year alone. Earlier in the season, Sze Fei and Izzuddin had defeated the Danish pair at both the Malaysian Open and Indonesian Masters.

With the victory in Bukit Jalil, Lundgaard and Vestergaard levelled the overall head-to-head record at 3-3.

Focus Turns to Singapore Open

Despite the disappointment, Nur Izzuddin said the pair now need to shift their attention quickly towards recovery as the Singapore Open begins almost immediately.

The Malaysian pair will focus on both mental and physical preparation ahead of another important week in the international badminton calendar.

The Malaysia Masters final also denied Sze Fei and Izzuddin the opportunity to claim their second title of the year after winning the Indonesian Masters earlier this season.

Historic Victory for Denmark

For Lundgaard and Vestergaard, the victory in Kuala Lumpur marked a major milestone in their careers as they secured their first-ever BWF World Tour title.

Their disciplined performance throughout the final showed why they are becoming one of the rising pairs to watch in international badminton.
