“One is not enough.” That’s the clear message from national men’s doubles coach Herry Iman Pierngadi, as he sets his sights on guiding Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik to more success starting with the Thailand Open in Bangkok today.
With a strong intent on making the former world champions multiple title winners in 2024, Herry, who took over from Tan Bin Shen in February, is determined to continue his winning momentum. He earned praise for leading Aaron-Wooi Yik to victory at the Asian Championships last month.
However, despite their credentials, Aaron-Wooi Yik have yet to consistently perform on the BWF World Tour, securing only the 2023 Denmark Open and 2024 Korean Masters titles so far.
“They have been following my training programme well since I started coaching them. There are a few aspects though that they can still improve on like Wooi Yik’s power from the back court,” said Herry.
As the second seeds in Thailand, Aaron-Wooi Yik will begin their campaign against the French pair Julien Maio-William Villeger. A win in the opening round could set up a potentially tough encounter with Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita for a spot in the quarterfinals.
