Malaysia Badminton Team for Olympics 2024
Malaysia is pinning the hopes on achieving its first Olympic goal in 2024 through the sport of badminton. Eight Malaysian badminton players have secured their spots in the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 following the allocation of quota places confirmed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on May 10, 2024.
Men’s Singles – Lee Zii Jia
Zii Jia will participate in his second Olympic Games. He ended his competition in the second round by Chen Long on his debut at Tokyo 2020. Attention is once again focused on the world number seven as he prepares for Paris 2024.
Women’s Singles – Goh Jin Wei
The 24-year-old has to deal with the headache of without coach Nova Armada for her first Olympic Games in Paris due to the limited passes available. However, this will not have much impact on her because she has already won the World Youth Championship twice before.
Men’s Double – Aaron Chia & Soh Wooi Yik
Aaron Chia-Wooi Yik, will make their second appearance in the Olympic Games. The world No. 5 doubles pair won Malaysia’s only bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. They once again has high hopes, not only to win another medal, but also to win an exclusive gold medal this time.
Women’s Doubles – Pearly Tan & Thinaah Muralitharan
This will be the duo’s first Olympic appearance in the women’s doubles category. The duo went on to win a gold medal for Malaysia at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, taming England’s Chloe Birch-Lauren Smith 21-5, 21-8.
Mixed Doubles – Chen Tang Jie & Toh Ee Wei
This is the first Olympics appearance for the mixed doubles combination of Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei. In this year, they just won two runners-up (Thailand Masters & Swiss Open), can Tang Jie-Ee Wei create a surprise at Paris 2024 Olympics?
