Pearly-Thinaah sign RM1mil-a-year deal as BAM aims for Olympic gold in 2028
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that all national shuttlers who deliver strong results will be offered rewarding contracts, regardless of their current standing.
Top pairs like world No.2 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, world No.3 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, and world No.4 Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have already signed special agreements that run until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Pearly-Thinaah are expected to earn RM1 million annually under the new deal.
BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said performance will always be the main benchmark. “I believe in merit. If younger players perform better, they should be rewarded,” he said, adding that negotiations should always be fair and balanced.
He hopes this approach will encourage higher performance among upcoming talents. Pairs like Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, who have already won the Indonesia Masters and Malaysia Masters this year, could be next in line for special incentives.
