Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair, are expected to decide on their contract renewal with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) by the end of next week.
The shuttlers have yet to renew their contracts, which has led to speculation that they may opt to leave BAM and pursue an independent path.
The urgency of the matter increases as the pair are set to compete in four consecutive tournaments: the Thailand Open (May 13–18), Malaysian Masters (May 20–25), Singapore Open (May 27–June 1), and Indonesian Open (June 3–8).
BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh commented on the situation:
“Pearly-Thinaah have not signed new contracts, but the matter will likely be resolved in these two weeks. They have many tournaments coming up, so we will give them time to decide,” he added.
