BAM Makes Bold Changes to Its Senior Badminton Lineup

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) recently announced significant changes to its senior team. As part of a strategy to enhance performance, BAM actively dropped a total of 13 players.

First, the men’s singles category underwent the most notable adjustments. BAM released Chua Kim Sheng, Ong Zhen Yi, Jacky Kok, and Jan Jireh Lee. In contrast, the association retained Ng Tze Yong, Leong Jun Hao, Justin Hoh, and Eogene Ewe, indicating a shift in focus and a potential rebuilding of the team.

Meanwhile, the women’s singles roster also experienced changes. BAM dropped Siti Nurshuhaini Azman and Ung Yi Xing. However, they retained K. Letshanaa, Wong Ling Ching, Oo Shan Zi, and Siti Zulaikha Azmi, suggesting that BAM aims to maintain a balance of experience and potential in this category.

In addition to singles players, BAM made cuts in the doubles categories as well. They released Beh Chun Meng and Choi Jian Sheng from the men’s doubles, while Anna Cheong and Low Yeen Yuan left the women’s doubles. The mixed doubles team also saw departures, with Jeremy Juan, V. Poopathi, and Lai Ting Chen being dropped.

Furthermore, BAM is currently assessing the futures of several women’s doubles players, including Teoh Mei Xing, Go Pei Kee, Lee Xin Jie, Tan Zhing Yi, Cheng Su Hui, Amanda Yap, Chan Wen Tse, Chong Jie Yu, Vanessa Ng, and Vannee Gobi. Their fates will depend on evaluations by a new head coach, a position BAM is actively seeking to fill. This move underscores the organization’s commitment to improving the coaching structure and overall performance of its women’s teams.

For now, only the national No. 1 women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, have guaranteed their spots in the upcoming season. Overall, BAM has retained 34 players for the 2025 season. This aims to foster a competitive and dynamic team capable of excelling on both national and international stages.
