Malaysia’s women’s badminton team ended their Uber Cup campaign in the quarter-finals after falling 3-0 to 16-time champions China on Thursday (April 30).

Despite the defeat, badminton Malaysia fans can still be proud of the team’s fighting spirit, as the players pushed hard and made China work for every point in the tie held at Forum Horsens.

In the opening singles match, K. Letshanaa delivered a strong performance against world No. 2 Wang Zhiyi but narrowly lost 17-21, 18-21 after a competitive battle.

Malaysia women’s badminton pair Carmen Ting and Ong Xin Yee also showed great determination after pushing world No. 1 doubles pair Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning to a deciding game. The Malaysian duo fought back brilliantly to win the second set 21-16 after dropping the first, but the Chinese pair’s experience helped them secure the decider 21-13.

Wong Ling Ching then stepped in to keep Malaysia’s hopes alive, but former Olympic champion Chen Yufei proved too strong, winning comfortably 21-10, 21-10 to seal China’s place in the semi-finals.

With the victory, China progressed to the last four of the Uber Cup and will next face either Japan or Thailand.
