Pearly Tan and M Thinaah, Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open after defeating Denmark’s Mai Surrow and Julie Finne-Ipsen 21-11, 22-20. Consequently, they will face China’s Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning, the Olympic silver medallists, in the next round.
In an all-Malaysian men’s doubles encounter, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun defeated Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi with scores of 21-16 and 21-19. As a result, they have secured a quarter-final match against South Korea’s third seeds, Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae.

Two Malaysian mixed doubles pairs also reached the quarter-finals. Tang Jie and Ee Wei overcame Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch with scores of 21-13 and 21-13. They will next face China’s second seeds, Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin, in their quest for a semi-final spot.
Kian Meng and Pei Jing, on the other hand, defeated Thailand’s Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat and Ruttanapak Oupthong with scores of 21-12 and 21-16. They are now set to face the sixth seeds from Hong Kong, Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet, in the quarter-finals.
